Earthworm farming

Organic waste recycling technology with earthworms depends on the manufacturer's selected target:

Earthworm farming for fishing;
Waste recycling;
Biohumus (vermicompost) for sale.

Earthworm farming cannot be learned in a few days. The first advice is to buy a small earthworm quantity in the start. Guaranteed stable earthworms' population growth starts at 100 000 breeding earthworms. This is the minimum for a small production.  If you want a bigger production, you can go up to 3 million. Anyway, at the beginning, operating costs are almost the same.

Most people plan to buy earthworms in spring or summer. It is not a very smart decision as you lose about  half a year of production by doing so.  In fact it takes two weeks to three months (two months in average) for earthworms to adapt to a new food.  So the best thing to do is to start in autumn or winter.

Earthworms must stay in a small heated room – 10 to 15 m2 is enough for a population of 1 million. Substrate can be composted outside.  If the adaptation period takes place during winter, earthworms would be fully prepared for effective production by february – march.

For different farming use, there are different techniques.

If you farm for fishing, the earthworms' growth would be increased whereas the biohumus would be of lower quality and quantity.

If you farm to sell biohumus, on the other hand, the earthworms' growth would be low but you will get a better biohumus.

Farming for recycling only: biohumus could be sold and earthworms can be used for production development only.
